Head Start is a federally funded program designed to work with at risk children and their families. Founded by President Lyndon B. Johnson, Head Start works with three and four year olds at risk youth to prepare them for entering kindergarten.
Our Agency is a delegate of Upper East Tennessee Head Start. Through this agency Head Start serves over 1,000 children and their families in Northeast Tennessee. Johnson County serves 85 of these children. Johnson County has served Head Start children and their families since 1965 which was the first year of Head Start. Head Start started as a summer program to help transition students into kindergarten. Head Start now serves children during the whole school year.
The different components of Head Start include:
| Early Childhood Education | Social Services | Health Services | Nutrition |
| Disabilities | Parent Involvement | Transitioning | Links |
